Voltstack 30k powers base camp for Rap Sh!t Season 2

The production team of HBO’s Rap Sh!t’s Season 2 faced various power needs during the production process. To address these requirements, the team opted for the Voltstack 30k electric generator.

The mobile battery energy storage system proved to be a versatile and effective solution. During the day, it powered two catering trucks and a crafty trailer. At night, the production team used the generator to power hair and makeup tents and other minor applications.

The production base camp was located in a parking lot without nearby power sources. To recharge the Voltstack 30k when it ran out of charge, the team used a 96 kW generator.

“While it powered the catering and crafty trucks during the day, the Voltstack 30k was able to eliminate the need for the diesel generator completely,” says Emily Odion, Sustainability Coordinator for Rap Sh!t season 2. “I also liked how easy-to-use the Voltstack 30k was. Our basecamp genny (generator) operator had positive things to say about it and thought it worked well as a supplement to his regular generator.”

The feedback from the genny operator is consistent with our learnings from deploying in the film industry since 2015. Many productions choose to hybridize the Voltstack ecosystem with a fossil fuel generator. As such, our Voltstack 30k products are equipped with a “Smart Hybrid” feature that allows the Voltstack 30k to automatically engage a diesel generator when it reaches a state of low charge.

Emily added, “I hope I get to be on a show where we rent the Voltstack 30k again so that I can see how it supplements the existing system for power on set.” The Voltstack 30k proved to be a reliable and efficient solution that provided clean, silent power for Rap Sh!t Season 2, demonstrating the stored energy system’s suitability for use in the film industry.
